I’m Geoff Baxter.
I am a BABCP and AREBT Accredited Cognitive Behaviour Therapist with over 20 years therapy experience. After initial training as a musician, I moved to London to pursue a career as a professional trombonist.
It was during this time that I first became interested in psychology, initially in relation to performance. After completing a Masters degree in psychology for musicians I decided to pursue therapy as a career and retrained as a psychotherapist.
I have worked as a CBT Therapist at the Priory Hospital and a performance therapist at Trinity College of Music. In addition to my clinical work I have also taught and supervised on the Rational Emotive & Cognitive- Behaviour Therapy Masters Degree course at Goldsmith’s College, University of London. I currently work in private practice in Hertfordshire and London.

ABOUT CBT
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is a form of psychotherapy that can help you to change how you think (Cognitive) and how you act (Behaviour).
Our emotional reactions to situations are largely as a result of how we look at that situation. In the past you may have developed unhelpful beliefs about yourself and others, and these beliefs in turn create emotional and behavioural problems. CBT helps you to change your perceptions and in turn deal more healthily with situations that you face in life..
CBT can help with a large variety of psychological problems and is especially effective in treating depression and. CBT has also been shown to be effective in the treatment of panic, phobias, stress, eating disorders, obsessive compulsive disorders, anger, low confidence or self esteem.
The particular type of CBT I practice is called Rational Emotive Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (RECBT). This was first Developed by Albert Ellis in the 1950s and is one of the original forms of CBT.
The origins of RECBT can be traced back to Greek philosophers such as Epictitus and proposes that it is largely our thoughts and beliefs in the face of life’s adversities that create our emotional and behavioural reactions. In other words if we think more healthily we are more likely to feel and behave in healthy ways. RECBT focuses on the demands we make and encourages us to adopt more flexible beliefs.
